Position Description:
JAC is looking for an experienced commercial Project Architect / Architectural Designer II to join our team in Santa Clarita, California. The ideal person will have at least 4 years of relevant experience in commercial or residential projects, ideally in the Los Angeles county and surrounding counties. The Architect / Designer will support the Principal Architect but may take a lead role in the management of entire projects from start to finish. He/she will have direct involvement with all phases of design concepts including the preparation of digital and traditional illustration medium. Additionally, he/she will be involved with the design conception, researching and documenting materials, schematic design, design development, construction documentation, and construction administration services. Selected individual will be responsible for leading project consultants and overseeing the development of complete contract document packages ensuring adherence to model codes. The project architect will be the primary client contract through the life of the project.
Creative design aptitude and excellent drafting skills and attention to detail are a must. Communication, leadership and teamwork skills are paramount. The Associate provides coordination and quality-control oversight of document production and oversees the work of the drafters on the project, and therefor requires thorough knowledge of architectural detailing, building materials, and applicable model codes. This position frequently involves coordination with project consultants and client consultants and vendors.
Job Requirements:

Experience running project independently with oversight of Principal, from design through planning permitting and often as project manager through tenant / owner occupancy.

Participate and or lead meeting with clients, consultant, contractors and other stakeholders

Work closely with Principal to coordinate multiple active projects with internal team members and consultants, and source material samples.

Manage document production by developing design and technical drawings and researching relevant information, coordinate and resolves design and technical detailing in consultation with senior staff and team.

Comprehensive knowledge of architectural drafting methods to produce highest quality design documents

Prepare design illustrations or rough sketches and create digital models in either Sketchup and/or AutoCAD.

Conduct code and product research and manage permitting and agency approvals process

Candidate may often lead bidding and negotiation activities and obtain cost estimates

Lead Construction Administration activities, including site visits, RFI responses, submittal reviews, and field review reports

Capable and effective at work on multiple project currently establishing and maintaining delivery deadlines

Very strong interpersonal and communication (written and verbal) skills are paramount. Communication with clients and manages expectations effectively.

Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree in Architecture or other relevant area of concentration

Actively seeking licensure in the state of California

Excellent verbal, written communication skills

3-5 years relevant experience in both Commercial Architecture; leading/managing projects a plus.

Intermediate – Advanced skill with Revit, AutoCAD, Microsoft Office Suite

Experience in the Microsoft Project, SketchUp, Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator), a plus

Working knowledge of California building codes and construct standards
